Dependent Personality Disorder

Individuals with dependent personality disorder seek advice and reassurance for everyday decisions and let others make decisions about important areas of their lives. They may bend over backwards to the point of doing unpleasant tasks for others in order to get support and gratitude. It is difficult for the person with dependent personality disorder to start projects on their own because they do not feel confident in their own abilities, and it is hard to disagree with others for fear of losing support or approval from others.

Individuals with dependent personality disorder believe that they cannot care for themselves. They do not like living alone, and if a close relationship ends they are desperate to get into another relationship right away even if it is not the best person for them.
