Our team of care providers come together to meet the unique needs of each child in our care. Our medical staff includes two board certified pediatric nephrologists and a pediatric renal dietitian. All our nephrologists are experienced in pediatric renal transplantation.
M. Khurram Faizan, MD, FAAP
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Clinical)
M. Khurram Faizan, MD, is the director of the division of pediatric nephrology and hypertension. He has served on our staff as a pediatric nephrologist since 2005 and is an assistant professor of pediatrics (clinical) at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Faizan earned bachelor's degrees in medicine and surgery from Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan and is certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. Faizan completed his clinical fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the University of Washington and the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle, where he received the National Kidney Foundation and American Society of Transplantation fellowship research award. He completed his pediatric residency at Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident.
Stephanie Marchand, PhD, RD, LDN, CLC
Pediatric Renal Dietitian
Stephanie Marchand, PhD, RD, LDN, CLC completed her training as a dietetic intern at Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children's Hospital in 2002. Since then, she has worked in inpatient and outpatient care for various pediatric services including nephrology, pediatric surgery, cystic fibrosis, gastroenterology and the Partial Hospital Program. Marchand has experience with inpatient services for all ages but works mainly with infants and provides lactation counseling as a certified lactation counselor.
Marchand received her PhD in food and nutrition sciences in 2007 from the University of Rhode Island. Her research focused on eating behaviors among collegiate athletes. Currently, she is involved in several research projects addressing the effectiveness of lifestyle changes on childhood obesity and chronic illnesses.
Sheri Sharp, RN, BSN
Sheri L. Sharp RN, BSN has been a nurse at Hasbro Children's Hospital for nine years. Sharp has worked in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, adolescent unit and the Children's Neurodevelopment Center, and has worked as a per diem in the pediatric ambulatory clinics before coming to be the pediatric nephrology nurse.
Sharp received her BSN from Johns Hopkins University in 2001 and a BS in Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1997. She is interested in transplant nephrology and maintains a database of pre- and post-transplant patients to assess their progress and clinical compliance. Sharp also helps to coordinate care to see that patients are able to navigate the system and receive the help that they need.
Barbara Leclerc is the primary contact person for the division of pediatric nephrology. In addition to managing the division's daily business operation, she schedules patients for the Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertension Clinic (located in the Coro Building).
Leclerc also runs the Pediatric Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) Program at Hasbro Children's Hospital. She schedules appointments, places the monitor on patients and downloads results for the physicians.
