Patient Care Areas: Cardiology Services
The Center For Cardiac Fitness offers cardiac rehabilitation, maintenance and prevention programs. The programs offered provide medically supervised risk factor reduction for adult cardiovascular disease patients and for patients at risk for developing cardiovascular disease. The program provides telemetry-monitored exercise, behavior modification and nutrition education to reduce risk factors associated with heart disease. The cardiac rehabilitation classes are held between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Fridays). Classes are approximately 1 3/4 hours long and include exercise, stretching, relaxation and an educational component.
Services are provided by registered nurses, bachelors and masters prepared cardiac physiologists, clinical psychologists, registered dieticians and a cardiologist. The cardiac maintenance program meets the needs of patients who have completed the formal cardiac rehabilitation program and wish to continue both their physical training and risk factor modification in a controlled and supervised setting. This component of the program is also offered as a primary prevention program for individuals who have never had a cardiac event but who are at risk for heart disease. The program offers individually prescribed exercise programs and interventions designed to modify coronary risk factors. Maintenance classes are offered through out the day, five days a week. Class sizes provide a ratio of 12 patients for each staff member. The rehabilitation personnel provide staffing for this portion of the program.
