The emergency department consists of two main areas for care.
When volume of patients necessitates, the annex is used to accommodate boarding patients and its hours of operation are adjusted accordingly. Patients who are sent to this area are triaged as less urgent, staffing is adjusted accordingly, and the flow to this area is continuous.
The annual visits for the ED have been increasing and average in excess of 50,000 visits per year. The ED is currently viewed as a Level II trauma department.
