The endoscopy department comprises a total of five rooms, one bronchoscopy room and four gastrointestinal rooms. The most common procedures performed in the endoscopy department are colonoscopies and gastroscopies. Other procedures include bronchoscopies, thoracentesis, sigmoidoscopies, ERCPs, endoscopic ultrasounds, and small bowel enteroscopies.
The operational hours of the unit are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding weekends and holidays. During operational hours, patients are prepared and recovered in the Prep and Holding Department. For call-back or bedside procedures, patients are cared for and recovered by the on-call endoscopy RN.
