  • Patient Care Areas: Surgical Services

    • Inpatient OR
      The inpatient operating room has 10 operating rooms for inpatient and outpatient procedures. Case volume is approximately 5,600 cases per year, including 600 open-heart surgeries and 1,500 outpatient procedures. The OR is staffed Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All other hours are staffed with three on-call teams; one for cardiac surgery, one for orthopedic/neurosurgery, and one for all other types of surgery.
    • Inpatient PACU
      The Inpatient Post Anesthesia Care Unit comprises 12 beds. The PACU is open Monday through Thursday 24 hours, and Friday 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. All other hours are staffed by on-call RNs. PACU nurses care for all surgery types (excluding open-heart) and perform procedures such as TEE, cardioversion, pain blocks and blood patches. In addition, PACU nurses will provide care for Interventional radiology patient and Cardiac Cath Lab patients when required. PACU holds patients as needed when overflow issues arise.
    • Outpatient SurgiCenter OR/PACU
      The SurgiCenter outpatient area is comprised of 6 operating rooms, 1 minor procedure room, a 6-bed preoperative preparation unit, and a 10-bed PACU. The SurgiCenter is designed to provide peri-operative care for the well patient with minimal medical risks. Patients in this group either do not require hospitalization post-operatively or will require an overnight hospitalization for observation with minimal care needs. The most common procedures performed are cataracts, hernias, and non-invasive orthopedic sports medicine procedures, such as new arthroscopies and shoulder arthroscopies. The following specialties are represented in case types performed in the SurgiCenter: orthopedics, ophthalmology, general, podiatry, plastics, GU and ENT. Patient education and integration of family into the patient's pre-operative and post-operative care is a primary focus for the SurgiCenter.
    • PAT
      Pre Admission Testing is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.. There are eight exam rooms for clinical assessments. Staff includes RNP (anesthesia assessment), RN, a medical assistant and a secretary. Patients are evaluated for surgery/procedure with a nursing assessment, nurse practitioner (anesthesia) assessment, lab work, cardiogram, and education. Approximately 40 patients are seen daily.
