Homemade Applesauce
You'll be amazed how deliciously different this is from the store-bought
variety. Any type of apple will work for applesauce except red delicious.
Although McIntosh is traditional, feel free to experiment with different
types or combinations. It is also possible to substitute one or
more pears for apples. Bartlett pears seem to work best.
Ingredients
- 9 medium apples
- ¼ cup apple juice
- 3-4 tbsp. sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
Directions
Peel and core the apples and cut them into chunks. Add all ingredients
to a large saucepan and bring the mix to a boil. After the mixture
boils, lower the heat and simmer until the apples are soft, about
20-25 minutes. Remove from heat; break up apples into smaller pieces,
stir and serve. Serves 8.
