Neuropathology

The division of neuropathology provides a wide array of services in all aspects of neuropathology. Staffed by a group of three board-certified neuropathologists, the division provides consultation services with rapid turnaround times and autofaxing of results.

The division offers:

• Standardized and comprehensive reporting formats.
  
  
• Nerve biopsy interpretation with semi-thin resin embedded sections and teased nerve fiber preparations for the diagnosis of segmental demyelination and axonal neuropathies.
  
  
• Muscle biopsy analysis with histochemistry and electron microscopy.
  
  
• Immunohistochemistry for muscular dystrophies.
  
  
• Electron microscopy for mitochondrial myopathies.
  
  
• Immunohistochemical and molecular analysis of brain tumors.
  
  
• Consultation services for second opinion cases.
  
  
• Consultations and post-mortem brain specimens, including medical-legal cases.
  
  
• The Brown University Brain Bank/Lifespan Dementia Registry Donation Program.
