The IBD Patient and Family Education Group is a chance for patients and their families to come together, meet other patients with IBD, and learn about their illness and ways to cope with it in an environment that is fun, informal and supportive. The group meets monthly during the school year. Siblings are welcome and encouraged to join!
Parent and patient groups meet at the same time and are co-led by social workers, psychologists, and
child life specialists
Members of the pediatric gastroenterology treatment team, including physicians, nurses, nutritionists, etc are frequently invited to provide information regarding a multitude of topics. Activities in the past have included discussing how to manage IBD in social and school environments, going on a tour of the operating room where gastroenterology (GI) procedures take place, learning about nutrition, and annual holiday and end-of-school potlucks.
If you are interested in learning more about the group please contact Lyndsay LaRocca, LCSW at 401-444-6677 or Karen Swartz, CCLS at
