Are there cosmetic operations for men?
Yes! Men can be candidates for facelifts, rhinoplasty, otoplasty (ear pinback), and all types of body contouring, including liposuction.
What about male breast development?
This is called gynecomastia, and is quite common. Sometimes it happens during puberty and the adolescent years, sometimes in young adulthood, and at times it becomes a problem later in life, for instance during hormone therapy for prostate cancer.
Is treatment effective?
Plastic surgery has good operations for this condition, ranging from simple liposuction, all the way up to reduction operations that actually removed skin as well as fat and breast tissue.
Why doesn't insurance cover this operation?
Most insurance policies specify coverage for "functional" problems, and consider this a "cosmetic" problem, despite the psychological discomfort it may cause. The same can be said for protruding ears.
