Sleep Disorders: Multispecialty Program

The Sleep Disorders Center

The Sleep Disorders Center of Lifespan is the region’s first multi-site, electronically linked sleep disorders center. The 14-bed network evolved from Rhode Island Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center, which opened in 1986.

In addition to a six-bed laboratory and centralized services at Rhode Island Hospital’s East Providence site, the center includes a four-bed facility and Newport Hospital and a two-bed facilities The Miriam Hospitals. The Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by both the Joint Commission and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

For Adults:

Sleep medicine services are available at the following locations:

  • East Providence at 70 Catamore Boulevard
  • East Greenwich on Route 2 across from the Showcase Cinemas
  • Portsmouth at the King’s Grant office condominiums on West Main Road.

The only behavioral insomnia program in the region is at Rhode Island Hospital.

For Children:

The only sleep medicine program for children and adolescents in the state is located at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The behavioral insomnia and pediatric sleep medicine programs soon will be extended to Portsmouth.

All 14 beds in the Lifespan system are connected by a digital polysomnography network, which provides a system-wide confidential patient profile database.
