"Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college
degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.
You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
Martin Luther King, Jr.
"We cannot always return an act of kindness to the person who bestowed it, but we
can pay back the debt by helping others."
by Jeni Mowry, manager of volunteer services at The Miriam Hospital
On behalf of volunteer services at The Miriam Hospital, I welcome you. I deeply appreciate the time our volunteers take from their personal lives and busy schedules to be with us. It is my hope that they gain as much from their experiences as the families and patients they serve.
Our volunteers are a talented and generous group of men, women and students who make a difference in the lives of our patients, their families, and our staff. Health care volunteers are diverse in every way. They are multi-cultural and multi-lingual; they are students, teachers, attorneys, retired professionals, homemakers, retired health care workers, individuals who are employed in various professions, clergy, dogs (yes, I said dogs!), performers, engineers and computer specialists, to name a few. As the manager of volunteer services for The Miriam Hospital, I am continually reminded of the critical role volunteers play in the hospital's mission to deliver high quality patient care.
Each volunteer program is unique. Therefore, the benefits of volunteering can vary from program to program. Here is a small sampling of health care volunteer opportunities:
