Uterine Artery Embolization
|
Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a
technique whereby the blood supply to the uterus is blocked
using special materials that are placed in the artery. Uterine
artery embolization has been performed safely for over 20
years for many gynecological bleeding problems. Over the past
9 years the technique has been proving useful in treating
fibroids.
An interventional radiologist performs the procedure.
Interventional radiologists are physicians who are specially trained
to use imaging tools such as x-ray and ultrasound to diagnose and
treat many different medical problems. |
