Have You Had a Pap Smear?
A Pap smear is a test your doctor does to check for sexually transmitted
diseases and possible signs of cervical cancer. It is an examination
of cells taken from your cervix.
Gynecologists recommend that women should begin to have Pap smears
by the age of 18 or when they become sexually active. Pap smears
should be conducted at least once a year. If you have had abnormal
results or a family history of cervical cancer, your doctor may
require you to have a pap smear every three to six months. Pap smears
should be done throughout a woman's life, even after menopause.
