The School at Hasbro Children's Hospital

When the normal pattern of schooling is interrupted due to a child's hospitalization, it is important for patients to feel that they can continue to be involved with schoolwork.

The goals of the hospital school are:

  • To make the transition from hospital back to school as smooth as possible for the patient and classmates.

  • To maintain academic involvement with the patient's home school and teachers.

  • To utilize hospitalization as a unique and positive learning experience.

Two classrooms are located in the Hasbro Children's Hospital. The elementary classroom is geared toward children in grades K-5. The secondary classroom focuses on adolescents in grades 6-12. The educational program offers a flexible, individualized curriculum to meet the changing needs of the patient population. All school-age patients are encouraged to participate in the hospital school.
