Preheat oven to 375°. Beat the margarine, sugar, egg, milk and vanilla together until light and fluffy. Stir in the flour, salt and baking powder, mixing well. Chill dough thoroughly. Roll small portions of dough at a time on a lightly floured board. Using a cookie cutter, cut out shapes, sprinkle with granulated sugar and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake about 8 minutes. Cool and store in tightly covered containers. Yields 4 dozen cookies.
