Visiting Hours and Guidelines
At The Miriam Hospital, we understand that visitors are important
to patients and their recovery; therefore, our visiting hours are
flexible. There may be times when a patient is not feeling well
enough for a visit, so we encourage you to discuss visitation with
the patient and his or her health care team. The guidelines listed
below were developed with the care, safety and comfort of patients
in mind. If at any time these guidelines are not adhered to, you
may be asked to leave the hospital.
Visiting Guidelines
- To foster a restful environment for our patients,
we ask that you limit the number of visitors to no
more than three per patient at a time.
- Be considerate of other patients by keeping noise
to a minimum, both in the room and in the
waiting areas.
- When the patient’s door is closed, the curtain is
drawn or a sign is present, check with a nurse at
the nurse’s station before entering the room.
- Visitors may be asked to leave the patient’s room
during a health care assessment, testing, treatment
or so that the patient may rest.
- Children visiting the hospital must be accompanied
by an adult and supervised at all times.
- Visitors who have colds, sore throats or contagious
diseases are discouraged from visiting patients.
- Visitors are not permitted to use patient bathrooms.
- As a patient’s diet may be restricted for tests, procedures
or because of a medical condition, visitors
should check with the nursing staff before bringing
food or beverages.
- Smoking is permitted in designated areas only.
Shelters for smoking are located outside the
emergency room and the main entrance.
- Latex balloons are not allowed in the hospital.
- Flower deliveries may be restricted; please check with the nursing staff.
- Visiting hours and guidelines may differ slightly in
critical care units: ICU, CCU, CVTI, CVTS and
PACU. Please check with the nursing staff for
specific guidelines.
Late Evening and Early Morning Visits
Between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., visitors
must use the hospital’s emergency department
entrance located on Fifth Street. The main entrance
and all other entrances are closed for security purposes.
Once you arrive at the unit, please stop at the nurses’
station to see if the patient is able to have a visitor.
Quiet Hours
Out of respect for all patients, the hospital observes quiet
hours from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. If you are visiting during
these hours, we ask that you pay special attention to your noise
level and the length of your visit.
