Media Policy

The Media relations staff at The Miriam Hospital is available for media inquiries 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is dedicated to assisting journalists by providing information, arranging interviews and accommodating other requests in a timely manner.

To facilitate the process, while protecting patient confidentiality and minimizing disruption to patient care, we have established the following guidelines for journalists:

• To arrange interviews with hospital staff and clinicians during regular business hours 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., call the Marketing & Communications Office at 401-444-5327. After hours, call the on-call pager at 401-793-2092.
  
  
• Contact Media relations staff in advance to obtain clearances to come onto the hospital campus or arrange photography.
  
  
• All photographers, whether using broadcast or still photography, must be accompanied by a media relations staff member while on the hospital campus. Photographers can film from public sidewalks or streets, such as Fifth Street, without a media relations staff member.
  
  
• Our staff follows the American Hospital Association's guidelines in meeting patient privacy guidelines contained in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. More about patient privacy.
  
  
• We ask that you identify clinicians and staff by their Miriam Hospital titles in stories about the hospital or patient care.
