Outpatient Pulmonary Health
and Rehabilitation Program
Cardiac Maintenance and Prevention
The cardiac maintenance programis designed for patients who have completed a formal cardiac rehabilitation program and wish to continue both their physical training and risk factor modification in a controlled and medically supervised setting. The maintenance program is also offered as a primary prevention program for individuals who have never had a cardiac event, but are at risk for heart disease. For pulmonary rehabilitation patients who enroll in the program, risk factor modification will also be emphasized, given increased risk of heart disease.
The primary goals for the cardiac matientence patient are as follows:
- To learn the skills necessary for self-monitoring during exercise sessions
- To maintain outcomes acheived in the initial 12-week program
- To continue favorable coronary risk factor reduction and behavioral modification
Our facilities include showers, locker rooms and a wide variety of cardivascular and strength training equipment.
The program is staffed with a professional team of cardiac physiologists and registered nurses and is equipped with medical emergency equipment. As maintenance members, patients will receive individualized exercise prescriptions, routine monitoring of vital signs, annual stress tests and occasional education lectures. In addition, for pulmonary patients who enroll, vital signs will include weekly assessment of oxygen levels while exercising.
