Preparing for a Biopsy
The week before:
- Stop taking aspirin or aspirin products (Bufferin, Excedrin,
Ecotrin, etc.) For 7 days before the procedure.
- If you take coumadin or warfarin (blood thinners), they should be stopped
4 days

- IMPORTANT: If you take aspirin or blood thinners (i.e.,
coumadin) less than 7 days
before the procedure, please call the secretary at 401-793-4440 as
the procedure may need to be rescheduled for a later date.
- If you are having a prostate biopsy, your doctor will give you a
prescription for antibiotics to be taken before and after the
procedure.
The night before:
- Do not eat solid foods after midnight.
The day of the procedure:
- Do not eat or drink on the morning of the procedure if you are having a biopsy.

a sip of water in
the morning.

- The procedure and recovery time usually take up to 5 hours (but
may vary depending on the type of procedure you are having
performed).
- You will need somebody to drive you home and be with you the night
