Rehabilitation
The goal of a cardiac rehabilitation program is to provide the
correct balance of exercise, nutrition, stress management, education
and individual support services that will help you incorporate healthier
habits into your life.
A twelve-week cardiac rehabilitation program begins with a complete
review of your medical history, current health status and physical
limitations. To help evaluate your current condition, you are typically
asked to either provide the results of a recent stress test or undergo
one at the rehabilitation program site. In addition, you will be
asked your personal goals for attaining optimal health and cardiac
fitness. Once the initial evaluation is complete, staff members
will prescribe a customized program to help you achieve your goals.
How the Program Works
Program sessions typically meet three days per week, for an hour
and a half, and include both fitness and education components. Cardiovascular
exercise may include stationary cycling, treadmill walking, stair
climbing and rowing. In addition, weight training, nutrition education,
relaxation
herapy and heart health education are available. Throughout the
program, blood pressure, heart rhythm, glucose levels and body weight
are monitored.
At the end of the program, your condition is re- Recommendations
are made to help you maintain and further achieve positive outcomes
by practicing heart healthy living. Your progress and recommendations
from program staff are reported to your personal physician.
