Clinical Advancement Program

The Miriam Hospital supports its nurses with a clinical advancement program designed to:

  1. Recognize and reward professional nurses for their clinical expertise
  2. Empower the professional nurse to function as a leader
  3. Promote excellence in the nursing care delivery to our patients and their families
  4. Enhance job satisfaction by recognizing professional and clinical growth.

Advancement to some levels requires a professional portfolio related to clinical expertise and nurse achievements.

The program is in alignment with the hospital's nursing philosophy. The American Nurses Association's "Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice" provide direction for professional nursing practice and are the framework for the clinical advancement program. Benner's "novice to expert" theory was used to develop the levels for the clinical advancement program.
