Nursing at The Miriam Hospital
Nursing Research
Nursing research is an integral part of nursing at The Miriam Hospital.
Supported by a nursing research consultant on site and by an evidence-based
practice philosophy, research is increasingly being used to support
nursing clinical decision-making and to answer clinical nursing
questions.
Nursing research is fostered through such activities as:
- unit-based research bulletin boards;
- an active nursing research committee;
- assistance with literature reviews and proposal writing;
- integration of evidence-based findings into policy and procedures;
- opportunities for nursing staff to become certified in human
subjects' protection and participate in nursing research.
The 'best' nursing research studies originate from bedside clinical
questions; several nursing research projects that are underway began
because of staff nurse input. Nurses at the Miriam Hospital are
experiencing firsthand that research can improve practice,
and that nurses can make a difference.
