Pre-Admission Testing

If you do not require any pre-admission testing
Approximately two days prior to your surgery, you will receive a telephone call from one of our nurses to discuss your medical history and to give you specific instructions to prepare for surgery. If you don't receive a phone call please call 401-793-4913 for general instructions or call your doctor's office.

  • During your pre-admission testing, a nurse will discuss your medical history and provide you with detailed information about your surgery.

Your surgeon may schedule you for tests prior to surgery. When you arrive at the hospital for this testing, please check in at the registration desk on the second floor of the Fain Health Centers.
Directions and parking

It is important that you arrive on time for your pre-admission testing appointment. Our goal is to see patients in a timely manner. If you are late for your appointment both your appointment and other patients' appointments may be delayed. If you need to change your appointment, please call the scheduling office at 401-793-4580 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Your pre-admission appointment may last 2 to 3 hours and includes an interview and an evaluation by a nurse and an anesthesiologist or the anesthesiologist's physician's assistant. Your pre-admission testing may also include blood tests, an EKG and a chest x-ray. If you have had testing done within the past month, please bring the results with you. Otherwise, testing may need to be repeated.

On the day of your pre-admission testing:

  • Eat normally.
  • Take your usual medication(s), unless your surgeon has instructed otherwise.
  • Bring all your medications with you.
