The Miriam Gala & Auction
So long, 2020!
Let’s ROAR into 2021 and pick up where we left off.
Please join our dedicated gala chairs Nancy and Howard Safran, MD and The Miriam Hospital for TAKE 2 Roaring into the 20’s Miriam Hospital Gala & Auction where we will pick up where we left off and come together to celebrate the hospital guaranteeing a roaring good time as you are transported back to the fabulous 1920’s! Enjoy a bee’s knees spread by Russell Morin Catering & Events, bid on the cat’s meow of auction items presented by professional auctioneer Harry Santa-Olalla, enjoy fabulous décor by Future Affairs Productions, and cut a rug with The SweetBeats Band.
While we know that the Gala may look a little different this year, we remain committed to hosting a fun and memorable event that ensures critical funding for our patients, staff, and our community will continue uninterrupted.
Sponsorship and ticket sale proceeds from this year’s gala will support The Miriam’s Greatest Needs Fund for a New Generation, which supports programs and improvements at The Miriam that have the most crucial and pressing needs. Dollars raised at this year’s auctions and fund-a-need will support the creation of The Center for Innovative Cancer Research at The Miriam Hospital to ensure that patients no longer have to travel out of state – or even leave their care team – to access the most advanced cancer treatments and clinical studies.
Although unable to be together in person, hundreds of Miriam Hospital friends and supporters took to Lifespan Health’s YouTube channel for a special combination of the hospital’s Annual Meeting and Miriam People Celebration of Tradition in mid-November. From the safety and comfort of their homes, familiar faces were eager to celebrate both the impact of philanthropy and the lasting impact of retiring hospital president Arthur Sampson.
The Miriam Hospital Cares - A Virtual Salute
First-Ever Virtual Event Draws 300+ Guests, Raises $330,000 for The Miriam
During a first-of-its-kind in the nearly 100-year history of The Miriam Hospital, the hospital’s largest fundraiser moved online, drawing more than 300 guests and raising $330,000 on Thursday, July 16. Dubbed The Miriam Hospital Cares, the live, half-hour virtual event was a tremendous alternative to the hospital’s traditional annual Gala & Auction, which was canceled in response to the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis.
For thirty, action-packed minutes, Miriam friends from all over flocked to their computers and mobile devices to show their support for frontline heroes and salute their lifesaving work amid a global pandemic.
The event was emceed by local radio host, Tara Granahan of WPRO, and featured an inspirational opening message from celebrity guest Meredith Vieira and a moving vocal performance by Rhode Island’s own Billy Gilman. Miriam Hospital President Arthur J. Sampson shed light on the impact of the coronavirus on the hospital, followed by a COVID-19 survivor and Miriam patient sharing their story.
Capping off the evening was a special Moment of Giving, led by Harry Santa-Olalla, that saw hundreds of donors pledge their support to help create respite rooms for hospital staff, the acquisition of additional U/V disinfecting lights, and fund The Miriam’s areas of greatest need.
The Miriam Hospital extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to everyone who helped to make The Miriam Hospital Cares a success beyond our wildest expectations!
On Saturday, May 11, The Miriam Hospital took more than 450 guests back in time to Rydell High when the hospital transformed the Wheeler School Van Norman Field House for its 2019 gala and auction, Grease is the Word! Inspired by the iconic musical turned film, the signature event raised a total of $702,830.
