Welcome from Maria Ducharme, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer
Welcome to nursing at The Miriam Hospital, where the essence of nursing practice is exemplified in our caring practices. Whether care is reflected in starting an IV, providing patient education, assisting with rehabilitation, consoling, or life-saving care, the nurse practices with compassion and respect for the uniqueness of every individual, always with attention to the cultural and ethnic diversity of patients and families. The patient is at the center of all that we do. In this high-technology, fast-paced environment, care cannot be assumed, it has to be explicit and supported.
The professional practice environment supports care that is guided by knowledge, compassion and evidence-based practice, valuing both the art and science of nursing. We recognize that excellent nursing care is contingent upon each nurse's professional responsibility to maintain continual self-learning and enrichment, and therefore we support and encourage academic and professional development.
Our nurses and clinicians are recognized for their excellence as four-time Magnet designees and many other accolades. As senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, I am accountable to ensure that nurses and patient care providers have the knowledge and support required to achieve excellent relationship-centered care in an environment that encourages continuous clinical inquiry and expert practice.
