What is Shared Governance?

Shared governance is one of the six tenets of our Professional Practice Model.

Shared governance is shared leadership, participative decision-making, and an organizational framework that gives nurses at all levels a voice in the decisions that affect patients, patient care, and the professional practice environment: These are decisions about clinical practice standards, quality improvement, innovation and research, and staff and professional development.

Councils and Shared Governance

Nurses participate in shared governance primarily through the Council Structure. Staff nurse council membership and leadership is encouraged, welcomed, and supported.
