Volunteer Information Sessions

At this time no volunteer orientation sessions are being held at Hasbro Children's Hospital. Updates will be posted here. Please call 401-444-5530 with any questions.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school. Day, evening and weekend placements are available. Volunteers must be able to commit to 100 hours of service.

Our volunteers are college students, retirees, working professionals, individuals considering a career change or returning to the work force, and individuals with a special skill or talent.

Volunteers work in the following areas:

  • Art Program
  • Emergency Department
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Oncology
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Pediatric Playrooms
  • Reading Programs
  • Waiting Rooms


At Hasbro Children's Hospital, volunteers must:

  • Attend a one-hour information session
  • Submit a complete application and obtain two references
  • Interview with volunteer services staff
  • Provide an updated immunization record
  • Submit to two tuberculosis tests
  • Complete an orientation about hospital policies and procedures
  • Commit to a minimum of two to four hours each week for at least 100 hours
  • Adhere to uniform and dress code policy
  • Provide a $12 uniform payment
  • Complete a criminal background investigation authorization form (provided by Lifespan volunteer services)

Volunteer Information Sessions

All sessions will be held at Rhode Island Hospital in the Plum Beach Room.

How to get to the Plum Beach Room

Entering through the main lobby of Rhode Island Hospital

  • Walk towards the elevators and go to the left, then a quick right.  
  • Walk by the bank on the left and continue straight.  
  • You will go by Au Bon Pain on the right and take your 1st right after that.
  • Walk to your left past the waiting area and you will see the elevators straight ahead.  
  • Go to the 2nd floor, continue straight and you will see signs to the “Plum Beach Room.”

Entering through the APC lobby, (Ambulatory Patient Center) at the back of the campus

  • Walk straight through the entrance and take a right and another right. 
  • You will see the elevators directly in front of you. 
  • Go to the 2nd floor, continue straight and you will see signs to the “Plum Beach Room.”

Note: You can always ask for guidance from the staff at the information desk.

There are adult and college student sessions. In-state college students may attend an adult session.

After you register for an information session, print and bring the volunteer application form with you to the session for which you are signed up.
