Candy Company Lends a Hand to Sweet Initiative
As the Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging celebrates its 25th anniversary, Laurie DeRuosi, NP, is expanding on a kindness she’s been extending to patients for several years.
DeRuosi, the center’s nurse navigator, gives a chocolate truffle to each patient who has undergone a biopsy, as a simple gesture of caring.
For the dual recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Pappas center anniversary, she’s happy to be able to offer the same sweet treat to all patients who visit this month.
Rather than DeRuosi covering the cost, as usual, medical imaging liaison Keena Tavares found another way to supply the goodies.
“I reached out to Lindt to see if they would be willing to make a donation,” Tavares said. Through the company website, she applied – and got a quick approval.
Tavares drove to the Lindt & Sprüngli (USA) headquarters in Stratham, New Hampshire, to pick up 10 cases, each containing about 800 truffles. The candies are in wrappers decorated with hearts or butterflies.
“It’s very generous of them,” said Tavares. She also appreciates DeRuosi’s self-funded efforts through the years “to do this for patients who are going through a rough time.”
“It’s comforting, and that’s the basic premise behind giving it,” said DeRuosi. “I’m very grateful that Lindt saw the value in that.”
