Behavioral Treatment and Support

Patients with epilepsy may also experience cognitive, behavioral and emotional symptoms in association with their epilepsy. Anticonvulsant medications can also have an effect on these symptoms. In addition, patients and their families may experience difficulty coping with the psychological and emotional changes that come with epilepsy.

Psychologists, neuropsychologists and neuropsychiatrists are part of the multidisciplinary team, working with the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program to help identify and address these problems. Treatment may involve medication or behavioral therapies, and/or supportive counseling.
