A program of Lifespan’s Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services, the Lifespan Portuguese Mental Health Program addresses the specific needs of our patients from Portugal or the Azores. Our clinicians and staff are part of and familiar with the cultures of our patients, and possess a depth of understanding of our patients’ values and customs, in addition to language fluency. Services are provided in Portuguese or English.
We recognize that cultural factors influence perceptions and behaviors, including in medicine and psychiatry. Our approach to treatment is sensitive to the needs of each patient in the context of his or her culture for the most effective results.
Portuguese Mental Health Services
Services are provided in our comfortable, warm, and welcoming office space, easily accessible from the highway and with ample parking. We have office staff who are fluent in Portuguese, and there is always someone available to answer questions and provide assistance.
Bilingual Health Providers
Our mental health clinicians are licensed health care providers who specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders. They have expertise in providing individual, family, and group therapy. Our psychiatrist is a physician who also prescribes medication, if needed.

Leonardo Batista, MD, DDS is a psychiatrist and practicing physician with the Lifespan Outpatient Psychiatry. Dr. Batista is also the Director of the Portuguese and Latino Mental Health programs. He is a graduate of the Brown Medical School Psychiatry Residency program.
