Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center

The treatment of patients with facial abnormalities has been a cornerstone of plastic surgery services at Rhode Island Hospital for more than 50 years. Areas of clinical expertise include cleft lip and palate repair, jaw reconstruction and treatment of other facial abnormalities.

The Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Center was established in 1960 so patients could be evaluated and treated by a multidisciplinary group of specialists. Today, it continues to make the highest quality care possible for infants, children, adolescents and adults with cleft and craniofacial anomalies. The department of plastic surgery coordinates the expertise of all associated disciplines, including pediatrics, genetics, hearing and speech, dentistry, orthodontics, nursing, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology and psycho-social services.

Pediatric Services

The Cleft and Craniofacial Center at Hasbro Children's Hospital is an interdisciplinary team that works to create the best treatment plan for each child. Our subspecialty surgeons have each completed fellowships in pediatric and craniomaxillofacial surgery. They specialize in the surgical treatment of congenital and acquired disorders of the face and skull, including both the soft tissue and the bones.
