Rhode Island Medical Imaging Endowed Scholarship
Congratulations to Emily Vargas, the 2021 inaugural recipient of the Rhode Island Medical Imaging Endowed Scholarship
Emily Vargas is a senior Diagnostic Medical Sonography student who has earned the honor of receiving the inaugural scholarship sponsored by Rhode Island Medical Imaging. Over the past fourteen months, Emily has exemplified what is means to be a dedicated student in the healthcare community. She has excelled both academically and clinically which has made her a deserving candidate of this “game-changing” scholarship.
Rhode Island Medical Imaging has joined forces with Rhode Island College to offer Medical Imaging students an opportunity for financial relief in the form of this new, merit-based, sponsored scholarship. In order to qualify, medical imaging students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, participate in community service, and submit a personal essay explaining their motivation for joining the medical imaging community.

Gabriela Feliciano Wins 2nd Place for Technologist Student Abstract in the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting
Gabriela Feliciano, a recent graduate of the Lifespan School of Medical Imaging’s Nuclear Medicine Technology Program, presented an abstract titled “177 Lu-Dotatate therapy for inoperable or metastasized gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors: How often do patients discontinue treatment early and why?” during the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting, held on June 11-15, 2021.
The presentation won 2nd place by SNMMI with this praise: "Feliciano presented excellently - she was poised, engaging and answered all questions regarding her research with precision and accuracy. Over 80 student abstracts from across the country were submitted. Only 25 of those were selected to present during the virtual meeting. During the presentations the students were judged on their research and presentation delivery. It is our great pleasure to share with you that Feliciano was awarded 2nd place in the Technologist Student Abstract category."
A special thanks to Dr. Noto, Leigh-Ann DiGregorio (2020 LSMI NMT graduate and originator of this project), and the Diagnostic Imaging Research team at Rhode Island Hospital for their guidance and support in completing this research.
Adopt-A-Family Holiday Donation 2021
Students sponsored a family of four siblings with the hopes of fulfilling the requested holiday gifts for each child. The LSMI students far exceeded expectations and each sponsored child received at least 15 gifts and almost a dozen family toys.
Amenity Aid Donation
Students in 2021 donated several hundred personal hygiene products to a local organization that creates care packages for populations and communities in need.
