Vascular and Interventional Radiology

The vascular and interventional radiology (VIR) division of the department of radiology performs specialized tests to view and treat abnormalities in blood vessels. VIR focuses on minimally invasive and surgery-sparing procedures, using image-guided techniques.

Abnormalities are commonly treated by angioplasty (using balloon-type catheters to open narrow vessels) or by placing metal stents in the blood vessels. Other areas of the body treated include the liver, stomach and spine. All procedures are performed by board-certified radiologists with subspecialty training.
