Lifespan’s mission of Delivering health with care includes making care accessible for all patients who desire to be cared for within our system. As such, we have made a conscious effort over the past several years to increase access to medical care for patients in all our communities. Over time we have opened new locations throughout the region, making access more convenient than ever before.

Now we are pleased to let you know we have taken another major step to increase access to care at Lifespan. Last month we announced an exciting new partnership with Coastal Medical that brings that highly regarded physician organization into the Lifespan system. Coastal Medical is a nationally recognized primary care practice with 20 locations in Rhode Island and 125 clinicians, including physicians, pharmacists, advanced care nurses, physician assistants, and technologists. As has become evident over the last several years, primary care is the bedrock of healthcare, and is an essential component in the local and national movement away from fee-for-service reimbursement toward value-based reimbursement. Coastal Medical is one of the top performing primary care practices in the entire country, and we are incredibly fortunate that they have chosen to partner with Lifespan to advance both of our collective missions of superb, patient-centered, high value care.

Coastal Medical and Lifespan share a vision for medical care that is accessible, affordable, and of the highest quality. The two organizations have a long history of successful collaboration in caring for patients over nearly two decades. Bringing together Lifespan’s vast expertise in specialty care with Coastal’s primary care expertise will provide enormous benefit to patients by fostering seamless coordinated care for both inpatients and outpatients. Coastal Medical boasts a national model for coordinated care, while Lifespan offers complementary strengths in specialty services, research, children’s health, and trauma care.

We are incredibly excited about this new partnership that will catalyze care transformation in our state and region and serve as a national model. I am extremely happy to welcome Coastal Medical and all their employees to Lifespan.
