COVID Vaccination Waste Prevention Program
To ensure that not a single dose of vaccine is wasted, the Lifespan COVID-19 Vaccine Waste Prevention Program allows participants to put their names on a list to be called at the end of each vaccination clinic day, in case there are excess prepared doses that must be used immediately.
Please note that the number of doses left over at each clinic is small—many participants may never receive a call.
Our vaccination waste prevention program is now enrolling participants age 40 and over, those with underlying health conditions over the age of 16, Lifespan employees and providers, and Rhode Island Department of Health-approved community providers and their patient-facing employees. As Department of Health guidance broadens to include other community groups, access to this program will continue to broaden accordingly.
Once enrolled, participants will be placed on a wait list, and must be prepared to come into a clinic at short notice. The number of excess doses varies from day to day, depending on appointments and no shows, and participants may be called into multiple clinics before receiving a dose. Participants who receive a first dose as part of this program will be eligible for a second dose at the appropriate follow-up time.
Participants in the vaccination waste prevention program will be scheduled for clinics as they become available and when the participant is eligible for the vaccine, according to Rhode Island Department of Health criteria.
