Critical Care and Trauma Considerations for Anesthesia Providers

Rhode Island Hospital and the Brown University Department of Anesthesia present the 2019 Rhode Island Anesthesia Conference: "Critical Care and Trauma Considerations for Anesthesia Providers." This conference will include nationally recognized speakers as well as interactive sessions for CRNAs and anesthesiologists.

This activity will also stress the importance of communication and shared knowledge among surgical and medical subspecialties in the care of the critically ill patient. Topics covered during the conference include updates to the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) guidelines; fluid management, antibiotic administration and hemodynamic monitoring of the critically ill patient; anesthetic implications and management of the trauma patient that requires operative intervention; and current trends in the resuscitation of the trauma patient.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify, diagnose and manage critically ill patients who arrive to the operating room with a working diagnosis of sepsis
  • Determine timing of antibiotic administration and approach to fluid management in septic shock
  • Distinguish between appropriate use of crystalloid and colloid resuscitation in the trauma patient
  • Recognize the importance of damage-control resuscitation (DCR) and management of the trauma patient undergoing DCR

Target Audience

Anesthesiologists, surgeons, certified registered nurse anesthetists, student registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesia residents and interested health care professionals

Registration for this event will be available until Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 5 p.m.
