John Peterson Memorial Basketball Game

Category:
Mental Health and Behavioral Health

Rhode Island Hospital and Bradley Hospital will host the second annual John Peterson Memorial Basketball Game, a fundraising event between the adult and child divisions of Lifespan Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services. The event will include a basketball game between colleagues and a three-point contest, sports mascots, concessions, raffles, and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit patients in the community who seek access to adult and pediatric mental health care at Lifespan.

The fundraiser was a collaboration of John Peterson, director of clinical business operations at Bradley Hospital, and Jim Florio Jr., director of psychiatry operations and business development. They first came up with the idea nearly five years ago. Sadly, John Peterson passed away unexpectedly in March of 2018.

In collaboration with psychiatry clinical leadership and with the help of Michael Montella, outpatient operations analyst at Bradley, Florio decided to continue the event in memory of John Peterson. Bradley Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital hosted the first tournament in May of 2018, raising more than $29,000 for healing arts programs at Bradley Hospital and transportation and other support services for Rhode Island Hospital adult psychiatry. Adult psychiatry squeezed out a single-digit win in 2018.
