Cardiac Anesthesia for the Non-Cardiac Anesthesia Providers

Rhode Island Hospital and the Brown University Department of Anesthesia present the 2020 Rhode Island Anesthesia Conference: "Cardiac Anesthesia for the Non-Cardiac Anesthesia Providers." This years’ program will include nationally recognized speakers, panel discussions, and a poster session for CRNAs, residents, and anesthesiologists. This activity will focus on the complexities of care for patients with underlying cardiovascular disease.  

Topics covered during the conference include interventional cardiology procedures, the adult congenital heart disease patient for non-cardiac surgery, and the use of echocardiography to guide management for non-cardiac surgery, right heart dysfunction, and mechanical assist devices for cardiac support.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the physiology of complex cardiac diseases and devices and be able to formulate a plan for the perioperative care of these patient populations for non-cardiac surgery
  • Identify the steps of structural heart transcatheter procedures and anticipate complications during these procedures
  • Assess the RV function and pulmonary HTN and make an appropriate perioperative plan for these patients
  • Identify rescue echocardiography to diagnose and treat patients with hemodynamic disturbances

Anesthesiologists, surgeons, certified registered nurse anesthetists, student registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesia residents and interested health care professionals
