James M. Ferguson, MD is a board-certified pulmonologist specializing in critical care at Newport Hospital. Prior to joining the staff at Newport Hospital, Dr. Ferguson was an internal medicine hospitalist at the Providence VA Medical Center.
Dr. Ferguson earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester. Dr. Ferguson completed his residency training in internal medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Rhode Island and The Miriam Hospital, where he was chosen to be a chief resident and spent an additional year dedicated to teaching medical students and residents.
He completed his post-residency training as a critical care hospitalist at the University Medicine Foundation in the pulmonary division at both Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals. He went on to complete his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care from the Alpert Medical School.
Dr. Ferguson specializes in the treatment of ailments of the lung and respiratory system. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Physicians. He will serve as an associate clinical professor at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
