Social Work and Counseling

Social workers and counselors at Bradley Hospital evaluate and treat a wide range of psychosocial problems, applying clinical skills to assist patients and their families in the resolution of personal and environmental issues attributed to mental or physical illness.

Winter/Spring Social Work Series Currently on Hold

Bradley Hospital's educational series in contemporary social work practice is offered as a professional development service of Bradley Hospital's department of social work and counseling. All sessions are held from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in Bradley Hospital's Pine Room. A $20 fee is payable at the door.

Social work CEUs have been requested for these events. Other CEUs have also been requested for select events.

Social Work and Counseling Internship

Looking for a unique training experience working with children, adolescents, and their families? Bradley Hospital offers internship opportunities to second year graduate students looking for an academic year internship.

Interns can experience many different levels of care including inpatient units, partial programs, residential, clinical school settings, specialty programs for children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities, as well as comorbid psychiatric and medically complex patients.

During your internship you will work with a multidisciplinary treatment team of social workers, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and other disciplines appropriate to the specific population.

While interning at Bradley Hospital, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Be a part of a cohort of interns from multiple graduate programs in the region.
  • Engage in weekly didactic and discussion seminars.
  • Learn about a multitude of topics to enhance your internship experience, including psychopharmacology, vicarious trauma, and differential diagnoses.
  • Learn from a mentor, someone who has completed their internship through the hospital and gone on to be hired within the system. Mentors function as a supportive guide as you navigate the many layers of your graduate schooling and internship.

To apply for an internship, please send your cover letter, resume, two letters of recommendation, and a clinical writing sample to Wendy Cook, administrative assistant, at [email protected].

If you have questions, please email Michele Gessman, LICSW, clinical director of social work and counseling at [email protected].
