$403,583 Raised for Hasbro Children's Hospital During 13th Annual Radiothon
From a brain tumor and kidney transplant to a ruptured appendix and treatment for rare diseases like Williams Syndrome, more than two dozen local families shared their stories during the Hasbro Children’s Hospital Radiothon on Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6.
Inspired by the firsthand experiences of families that define the work of Hasbro Children’s Hospital, a community of listeners across Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts came together to donate $403,583 to the area’s leading pediatric hospital. The funds will support patient care, lifesaving programs and research.
Now in its 13th year, the Radiothon is a partnership between Cumulus Providence Radio Stations (92 PRO-FM, Lite Rock 105, News Talk 630 & 99.7 WPRO, and Hot 106) and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The event was broadcast live from Hasbro Children’s Hospital, with more than 100 volunteers answering the phones that rang off the hook throughout the day.
“The incredible outpouring of generosity from our community was not only amazing, but will have a tremendous impact on the lives of our patients and their families,” said Margaret M. Van Bree, MHA, DrPH, president of Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital. “On behalf of all who depend on our hospital, my deepest thanks to Cumulus Providence and all of the sponsors who made the Radiothon possible and gave people an opportunity to support our lifesaving work.”
Listeners could follow the Radiothon through its Facebook page, where they were able to “meet” some of the families sharing their stories and view photos in real-time. Patients on-site at the Radiothon were treated to face-painting and other fun activities between interviews.
“Cumulus Providence is proud to partner with Hasbro Children’s Hospital on the annual Radiothon; our listeners and advertisers are incredibly generous in support of this important cause,” said Holly Paras, market manager for Cumulus Providence. “Hasbro Children’s Hospital touches vast numbers of people and families in southern New England and by working together, we are helping to make a difference in the lives of children across our community.”
Among the sponsors and supporters of the 13th annual Hasbro Children’s Hospital Radiothon, many which matched gifts during special “power hours” and volunteered to answer calls, were Alex and Ani Charity by Design; Alexander’s Uniforms; Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grille; Cox Business; Dunkin’ Donuts; East Commerce Solutions, Inc.; Hasbro, Inc.; Jordan’s Furniture; Lamar; Marshall Building & Remodeling Company; Murray Outdoor Communications; National Guard Association of Rhode Island; Pepsico Foodservice; Providence Auto Body; Rhode Island Monthly; Rhode Island Public Transit Authority; David D. Schuller; Superior Comfort, Inc.; Walmart; and Warwick Mall.
Since its inception, the Radiothon has raised more than $7.6 million for Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
