Edward Donnelly, MD, Neurologist, Joins Newport Hospital
Newport Hospital announced that neurologist Edward Donnelly, M.D., has joined Newport Neurology Services at Newport Hospital. Donnelly, who also serves as medical director of the hospital’s stroke program, began seeing patients on Dec. 1.
Donnelly’s areas of specialty in neurology include epilepsy and seizures. As director of the Newport Hospital stroke program, he’ll provide both patient stroke care and community and physician education about stroke treatment and care.

Durand, president of Newport Hospital. “His range of expertise in neurology – from treating migraines and peripheral nerve disorders to strokes and memory loss – makes him a valuable resource to the hospital and our patients.”
Located in the Borden-Carey Building of Newport Hospital, Newport Neurology Services deals with diseases of the nervous system including stroke, epilepsy, migraines, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Certified by the Joint Commission since 2012, the hospital’s Primary Stroke Center meets rigorous national standards for the quality treatment of those suffering from stroke.
Dr. Donnelly comes to Newport Neurology Services from NeuroHealth Inc. in Warwick. He is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School and completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Rhode Island Hospital, where he also completed a residency in neurology. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
“Neurology is a unique and challenging field that I really enjoy,” says Donnelly. “Some of the complexities of diagnosing and managing neurological disorders can be less than straightforward, but I’ve been struck by the expert team approach at Newport Hospital – and it’s a distinction that drew me to patient care at Newport Hospital.”
