Neurologist Susanne Patrick-MacKinnon, MD, Joins Newport Hospital
Newport Hospital announced that Susanne Patrick-MacKinnon, MD, has joined the Newport Hospital medical staff as part of Newport Neurology, a Lifespan Physician Group practice. She began seeing patients on June 1.
Patrick-MacKinnon received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She completed her postgraduate training at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Yale New Haven Hospital. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Rhode Island Neurological Society and serves on the board of the East Bay Coalition for the Homeless.
“Dr. Patrick-MacKinnon is a fixture to local patients having been in practice since 1995, and practicing in both Portsmouth and Bristol since 2003 – offering more than two decades of experience and expertise in epilepsy and a broad spectrum of neurologic disorders,” said Crista F. Durand, president of Newport Hospital.
Located in the Borden-Carey Building of Newport Hospital, Newport Neurology deals with diseases of the nervous system including stroke, epilepsy, migraines, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Certified by the Joint Commission since 2012, the hospital’s Primary Stroke Center meets rigorous national standards for the quality treatment of those suffering from stroke.
“It’s a privilege to be able to work with and treat patients struggling with a diverse range of conditions,” said Patrick-MacKinnon, “whether they need an electromyography to assess muscle and nerve function, Botox therapy for chronic migraines, or trigger point injections for everything from fibromyalgia to myofascial pain syndrome. I enjoy helping patients manage their health and well-being so they can live to their best potential.”
