Obstetrician-Gynecologist Ginny Bass, MD, Joins Newport Hospital

Ginny BassNewport Hospital announced that obstetrician/gynecologist Ginny Bass, MD, has joined the Newport Hospital medical staff as part of Newport Women’s Health. She began seeing patients on February 13.

A graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, Bass completed her residency at Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology with expertise ranging from care of adolescent girls to caring for menopausal women.

“It’s a thrill to have Dr. Bass join our growing team of women’s care providers at Newport Women’s Health,” said Crista F. Durand, president of Newport Hospital. “Her thoughtful, holistic approach and passion for women’s health at all stages of life is a perfect fit for Newport Hospital and the Newport community.”

A fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Bass comes to Newport Hospital from Lawrence and Memorial Medical Group in Westerly. She is part of an expanded team of medical professionals in Newport Hospital’s Women’s Health Services that includes five board-certified physicians, a certified nurse midwife, and specially trained and certified obstetric nurses.

“My focus is caring for women throughout their lives – from the earliest ages on through menopause in a gentle, understanding way – and that’s a real team effort here are Newport Hospital,” Bass said. “We all have the same goal of safe mother, safe baby – and it’s wonderful to practice that in a “Baby-Friendly” designated facility with a nursing staff who respects women’s birth experiences and really lets women do what they need to do.”

The Baby-Friendly designation from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) recognizes the commitment and dedication the hospital and staff embrace for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
