Pediatric Neuropsychology
The pediatric neuropsychology service was developed by the Neuropsychology Program at Rhode Island Hospital to meet the growing need for comprehensive and integrated assessments of children with brain and central nervous system dysfunction. We focus on children and adolescents with a diverse range of medical, neurological, and neurodevelopmental disorders that impact thinking, learning, or socio-behavioral functioning. We also evaluate some adults with developmental or medical disorders dating from childhood.

Neuropsychological problems can affect learning, memory, organization, attention, and the regulation of emotions/behavior. A neuropsychological evaluation can help a child's family, doctor, teacher and therapists provide support and assistance to meet the child's unique needs.

Pediatric neuropsychology is a subspecialty area that also considers how the brain grows and develops in children.

Children are referred to the Pediatric Neuropsychology Service from within and outside Rhode Island Hospital, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, oncologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, pediatricians, other physicians and nursing personnel and school systems.
