Computed Tomography (CT) Program at Lifespan School of Medical Imaging

Computed tomography, also known as CT, is an advanced medical imaging method that uses X-rays and computers to capture images of individual cross-sectional slices through the body. Due to its speed of image acquisition, CT is the modality of choice for trauma and evaluation of acute stroke. CT is also commonly implemented in radiation therapy treatment planning, for assessing vasculature, as well as visualizing various chest, abdominal pelvic, bony, and soft tissue abnormalities. CT imaging can be utilized for cardiac evaluation, as a colon and lung screening tool, and during the biopsy of suspicious tissue. 

The computed tomography program at Lifespan School of Medical Imaging program is immersive and fast-paced. The student is educated on CT principles, safety, pathology, and the physics that makes this exciting imaging modality possible. The student become proficient in venipuncture since many exams require the use of intravenous contrast media to better visualize internal structures and pathologies. Students will apply their didactic skills in both emergent and outpatient settings to obtain the competencies necessary to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT CT) examination. After successfully passing the registry exam, the student is ready to pursue a rewarding career as an entry-level CT technologist.
