Saul N. Weingart, MD, is president of Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Prior to joining Lifespan, Dr. Weingart served as chief medical officer and senior vice president of medical affairs for Tufts Medical Center and Tufts Children’s Hospital in Boston, and Professor of Medicine, Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine.
At Tufts, Dr. Weingart led the physician response to COVID-19 and directed successful Joint Commission, CMS, and Massachusetts Department of Public Health surveys. He also managed the hospital board of trustees’ quality committee and annual goal-setting process, expanded specialty pharmacy, palliative care, and addiction psychiatry programs, and mentored students, residents, fellows, and faculty, while continuing a clinical practice in hospital medicine.
Prior to Tufts, Dr. Weingart spent nine years at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety, an area in which he is an established national leader. Dr. Weingart earned his MD from the University of Rochester and his MPP and PhD from Harvard University.
