Barbara Tylenda, PhD, ABPP serves as chief psychologist to Bradley’s center for autism and developmental disabilities (CADD) and is clinical professor in the department of psychiatry and human behavior (DPHB), division of biology and medicine of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Tylenda has been a licensed, practicing clinical child psychologist for over 35 years.  She is board certified in the specialization of clinical child and adolescent psychology (ABPP), and is one of only six ABPPs nationwide who have centered a career in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of children and adolescents who present with developmental disabilities (DD) and concomitant psychiatric disorders.

Tylenda received her AB (Summa Cum Laude) in psychology and fine arts (Studio) from the College of the Holy Cross (Massachusetts) in 1979, and completed a period of study at the C. G. Jung Institut in Zurich, Switzerland while a Fenwick Scholar.  She obtained her MA and PhD in clinical (child) psychology from Southern Illinois University—Carbondale in 1982 and 1985, respectively.  Tylenda completed her clinical (child) psychology internship at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 1985 and remained at Brown for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in DD.

Tylenda’s scholarly work centers on psychological assessment of individuals with intellectual disability (ID), concomitant psychopathology in the DD population, and broader education to the profession and public regarding the psychiatric and psychological challenges of children and adolescents presenting with DD.
