“Find a Doctor” is operated by Lifespan and includes all physicians who are on the medical staffs of Lifespan-affiliated hospitals, without any charge to them. Selection is based upon your needs and preferences. Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Lifespan or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Lifespan’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Lifespan hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Lifespan. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Lifespan or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Lifespan-affiliated medical staff physicians.
Tanya D. Murtha, MD, MPH, MHS
Pediatric Intensivist
Tanya D. Murtha, MD, MPH, MHS, is a pediatric intensivist in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit of Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Her areas of expertise include the delivery of difficult news, simulation, and medical education, in addition to her clinical specialization in pediatric critical illness. Dr. Murtha is also an assistant professor of pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Her hospital experience includes working in pediatric critical care units at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital in Connecticut, as well as Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, and New York City Health and Hospitals Harlem, both in New York. She has held previous academic appointments with Yale School of Medicine, Yale University, New Haven, and Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, in New York City.
Dr. Murtha is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics, including the Section on Critical Care, and is a reviewer for several medical journals including Pediatrics, Biomarker Insights, Cardiology in the Young, and Palliative Medicine. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on many aspects of medical education and communication. She conducts research in the delivery of difficult news and how to teach trainees and medical professionals this challenging skill, including a curriculum implementation at the national level for pediatric critical care medicine fellows.
With a medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, Dr. Murtha completed both a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. Before pursuing an education and career in pediatrics, she obtained a master’s degree in public health at Boston University, and during fellowship, she completed a master’s in health science in the medical education pathway at Yale University.
